Christmas Music

Ask a bunch of people what they love about the Christmas season and a vast majority of them will talk about the music. It’s a defining characteristic of this time of year with its holiday-centric lyrics heavy on the snow, and the lights, and general good cheer. Whether you like Jazz or Pop or Country or any other kind of music, you can find a holiday tune in your favorite genre.

There are so many different Holiday songs out there it’s nearly impossible to have heard them all. Heck, you can be in your thirties and stumble across a holiday tune that you never heard before, like I did a few years ago with Gayla Peevey’s ode to a pachyderm, “I want a hippopotamus for Christmas.” You can listen all season long and there is still bound to be a musical gem that you miss, especially since there are so many Christmas themed CDs released every year. Of course, many of those CDs include rerecorded, and often reimagined, standards, but basically there is never a shortage of Holiday music to choose from.

If you feel like you could use a little Christmas Music inspiration, check out the Billboard Top 100 Holiday song list. You’ll probably recognize most of them, but maybe you’ll see something new that you can stick in your ear this Holiday season.
